Accounting Analyst (Req 12320)

Verify accuracy of figures, calculations and general ledger postings pertaining to retail transactions recorded through our point of sale system. Examine sales transactions, expense accounts, bank records, inventory and margins and other similar accounts to verify accuracy.

How you will impact Southern States Cooperative:

Audit point of sale transactions to identify and correct issues generated at our Company Owned Retail locations including sales, margins, inventory and certain expenses.

  • Monitor, research and resolve differences in purchase order matching that are outside of system tolerances on a timely basis.
  • Review clearing accounts and follow up with appropriate retail and wholesale personnel as necessary to resolve aged outstanding items.
  • Analyze margins and expenses for reasonableness on a monthly basis using system-generated reports. Investigate out of tolerance and unsatisfactory differences.
  • Make appropriate journal entries to complete the monthly financial statements.
  • Prepare timely and accurate account reconciliations on a monthly basis.
  • Assist with inquiries from internal and external auditors.
  • Assist store personnel in using, researching and resolving issues in our point of sale system.
  • Assist in preparation of budgets.
  • Maintain current knowledge of related accounting and point of sale operating procedures.

What you need to succeed:

  • A minimum 2-year associate's degree in accounting, finance, or business.
  •   One to five years of retail accounting experience preferred
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and strong attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong mathematical, analytical and organizational skills
  • Excellent initiative, problem solving skills and ability to multi-task
